Patients that have migraines and headaches, a lot of times it’s due to either tension in the muscles or sometimes it can be because they’re grinding their teeth at night or sometimes clenching during the day. So if we can relieve the clenching and grinding, a lot of times, it then relieves the headaches. But we can also use some of the neurotoxins to, you know, relieve some of the muscle tensions if you’ve got some hotspots.
Typically, we would do a console and then we do a treatment plan and decide what dosage we’re going to do. And then usually it’s an easy procedure. The needles are very small, so it’s not painful. It’s usually a very comfortable procedure, and then it takes about two weeks for it to reach its full effect.
So usually we would do a revision after two weeks and touch base with the patient to make sure that that dosage is working well for them, or if we needed to add a little bit more we could always do that. And it usually lasts for about three or four months.
Say Goodbye to Headaches & Migraines With Our Treatment
We all have headaches from time to time. However, if you consistently wake up with one and it just doesn’t seem to go away, you may be dealing with tension headaches caused by teeth grinding. Many people grind their teeth in their sleep without even knowing it. Bruxism can cause tension in your muscles and the joints in your head. It can also wear down your tooth enamel.
Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums at your consultation to look for signs of bruxism. If we see any, we can use a digital scanner to make highly accurate impressions of your teeth, which we’ll send to our lab partner. They will create a custom-fitted oral appliance that fits comfortably in your mouth while you sleep.
The appliance will:
- Comfortably cushion your teeth to prevent grinding
- Lessen headaches and other symptoms such as jaw pain
- Protect your teeth against damage that could require repair with restorative dentistry such as crowns
Another option for your headaches is Botox® treatment. A quick application of this FDA-approved treatment to your jaw will help keep your jaw muscles from moving as much and can help reduce your pain. Either treatment will help prevent bruxism, which can cause your headaches.
